3rd Annual Shamrock Shimmy – Race Report
The final weekend in March was spent at Beach RC where my wife and I raced at the 3rd Annual Shamrock Shimmy. We tackled things a little different for this race since I was finally able to convince my wife to step out of the pit area and onto the driver’s stand. She was pretty nervous but ended up participating in her first race, she was having so much fun after the first heat of racing that she added a second class and ended up racing in both the powder puff and novice divisions. I focused on 2wd Short Course and assisting her through out the day, which kept me busy. It was definitely a little unusual from a typical race day but we had a lot of fun and it turned out to be a very memorable weekend.
In 2wd Short Course, I took TQ honors and 1st place with my Pro-Line Pro-2 truck. The truck continues to perform really well in 2016 and has put together a string of four consecutive podium finishes. My Pro-2 is equipped with green seal Boca Bearings, a Maclan MRR 8.5T motor and for this race I selected super soft Pro-Line Electrons which I felt provided the most traction.
My wife ended up finishing 4th and 5th in her two classes and has already asked what other tracks offer a powder puff class since she had a blast.
As always, I would like to say thank you to the team managers for allowing me to represent their companies: Pro-Line, Maclan, Xpert Servos, Boca Bearings, BoomRC, Venom Batteries and Bullit Performance R/C Hobby Shop in Raleigh, NC.
The last month has taken me all over the South.
My first race I made a trip down to BT-R Racing Central in Ft Walton Beach, FL. I ran my hobby pro Hobbywing powered stadium truck in my first ever 17.5 class. Managed to take 6th overall out of 2 full classes of trucks. The following week went to Knoxville, TN. I ran 4wd sct and 1/8 ebuggy. In sct I finished 8th out of 24 trucks and in ebuggy I finished 13th out of 3 classes of buggy’s. Next I raced at Rc3 in Huntsville, AL, where I competed in 2wd mod stadium truck and ebuggy. In St I took tq and finished 2nd. In ebuggy I finished 4th out of 16 cars. Last weekend I went back to Rc3 and raced ebuggy and 2wd mod buggy. In 2wd buggy I finished 5th out of 20 2wd buggy’s in my first race in that class in over 3 years. In ebuggy I finished 5th out of 16 cars.
All my Hobbywing powered cars are working great! Just shaking off the cobwebs of being off all winter.
Better results to come…Freddy Marsh
During the new year, we have been continuously working on the new car. We tore down the car to the bare chassis and are putting it back together, not only to replace the bad parts, but to learn more about the car. Our first practice is May 14, and looking forward to it.
