Tell us briefly about your project. Is it a work of art or does it serve another function?

The Power Tower explodes into the air. An interactive ‘hands-on’ kinetic sculpture. This about the experience of energy 4 bicycles are turning this power-tower round. It's spinning faster and faster. Only if the cyclers (adults or children) are working together, by cycling in the same rhythm, they are capable to spin the tower that fast, that it suddenly 'explodes' into the air, a kinetic explosion. Already from far away you see a tower go up and down and you wander: what is happening there? The tower 'explodes' into the air and rises from 4 meter (13 ft) into a tower of 15 meter (50 ft). The players can experience, feel the impact of the energy.

When did you start working on this project and how long did it take you to complete?

After being a sculpturer in stone, marble and lime stone I made the step into the moving sculptures. These kinetic sculptures can tell with rhythm and melody, a dynamic story; Motion is becoming the extra dimension. My sculptures are brought in motion by wind or water-energy or by interacting with human beings. The sculpture is never the same. It is constant changing and it is always in a moment of change.

What was your goal in building this project?

Does your project help to solve a problem? If so what problem?

What makes your idea unique?

The challenge is to make a composition, which tells it all. The quietness of a moving campfire, but also the dynamics of a thunderstorm. Like watching the clouds moving in the sky you can dream by the motion of the sculptures.

In what capacity are you using bearings and what type of bearings?

Angular contact bearings

What is the most important thing you want people to know about your project?

Just watch the motion and enjoy.

How will you use the $5,000 prize?

I can finish this project. I can complete the sculpture and I'll put the movie on youtube and everyone can enjoy the motion.
