Tell us briefly about your project. Is it a work of art or does it serve another function?

ABOUT MESARC What is MESArc? ?MESArc stands for Math, Engineering, Science, and Achievement Remote Control. Evolving over the years, the MESArc program has become a proven STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) outlet for middle and high school students. The program involves the use of the International Baccalaureate Design Cycle to design, create, and evaluate scratch build remote control ground and air vehicles while adhering to STEM content and associated standards. MESArc Vision ?MESArc is a pathway to the engineers of the future and we are committed to making scratch build remote control for kids one of the top outlets in the world for them. ? This vision is accomplished through: Affiliation with our valued sponsors/donors, advisors, and all students in the MESArc program. A process of continuous improvement. A commitment to leadership, education and scientific/technical development. A safe, secure, and enjoyable scratch build environment. ? ?MESArc Mission The MESArc purpose is to serve, promote, and guide students to the possibilities in the field of Math, Engineering, Science and Achievement through the lens of scratch build remote control design. MESARC ROAD WARRIORS PROJECT rcRoad Warriors represents the "Ground Division" of the MESArc program starting new this Fall. Involving STEM based strategies and the IB Design cycle to create a range of scratch build remote control ground vehicles from street to offroad to autonomous. The students will use a FAB LAB/Innovation Center to Research, Design, Create, and Evaluate these products. The students will also use the MESArc entrepreneurial element to sell and distribution of proven student created designs for program sustainability.

When did you start working on this project and how long did it take you to complete?

The MESArc Road Warriors was developed by the MESArc students as an expansion of the RC STEM program already in place this past school year. The last month of school was devoted to planning and creating the needed resources to foster this new venue of design and innovation. We are in the planning and gathering stage right now for the project to start in full swing this September.

What was your goal in building this project?

The goal in building this project was to create a ground division using the same Design and Production lens as the proven rcFoam Fighters. The end result is to create the Ultimate RC STEM experience for our MESArc students on a yearly basis and prepare them using STEM applications for the 21st Century Economy.

Does your project help to solve a problem? If so what problem?

The project will encompass an endless array of problems, from chassis, to suspension, to canopy, street to off-road, to industry/defense/partnership design, etc. The students will generate the problems and the needs throughout the semester, essentially creating the curriculum for future students. They will solve the created or assigned problems using a guided IB Design Model from Research to Evaluation.

What makes your idea unique?

The uniqueness of the project is that it will follow the same model used in our current rcFoam Fighters program for scratch build air division. Student created, produced, marketed, publicized, and distributed to teach hands on entrepreneurship.

In what capacity are you using bearings and what type of bearings?

The ground division will utilize Boca Bearings in every vehicle design created. The students will design the rims and possible suspension mechs for their vehicles that will house the bearings, and continue to create new ways of best implementing them.

What is the most important thing you want people to know about your project?

The most important thing that we want people to know about our project is that the vehicles will be designed by middle school students. That the project doesn't just end there, they will showcase and share their created vehicles on their thriving YouTube channel. Keeping true to the philosophy of what we have created is that any creation's plans will be shared with our community so they can join in on the fun of creating and modifying MESArc projects. If done well and the vehicles produce a demand, the students will then produce, market, and distribute build kits, utilizing the same model MESArc Foam Fighters has successfully been able to implement with their designs.

How will you use the $5,000 prize?

The funds will go to the necessary equipment, materials, and RC electronics needed to successfully create the scratch build vehicles and testing environments. Equipment: - Table Top CNC Router - 3D Printer Accessories - Hand Tools Materials: -Aluminum Sheets -Carbon Fiber Sheets -Acrylic Sheets -MDF -Materials to construct a race track for testing different vehicle types. RC Equipment: -TX/RX -Motors -ESCs -Servos -Control Rod and Horns -Batteries
