Tell us briefly about your project. Is it a work of art or does it serve another function?

The Remote Operated Electric Bucket Loader is built for moving dirt in environments that pose significant risk to the occupant. The exterior case is 1/4" aluminum and steel and is sealed for dust and water up to IP67 rating. The applications of a robot like this are only limited by ones imagination. Check out the

When did you start working on this project and how long did it take you to complete?

We have been working on the ROEBL for 2 years now. The machine has gone through four unique life changes, started life as a diesel hydrostatic drive ride-on bucket loader, then we converted it to an electric hydrostatic (battery pack driving motor driving hydrostatic), then we converted it to the ROEBL first with brushed DC motors and no restoration and then with ultra high torque brush-less DC motors system with a complete top to bottom restoration of the original tub and arm.

What was your goal in building this project?

To provide service workers in any field a robotic solution for a harsh job in deadly environments.

Does your project help to solve a problem? If so what problem?

We would like to see our robot used in extreme applications from fire, flood, biological radiological and any thing else thrown at it. The fact that the robot is totally sealed and requires not breathing air makes it very useful for extreme environments, especially where contamination and clean up is key.

What makes your idea unique?

As far as we know, no one has a pure EV drive on a skid steer(no hydrostatic drive no hydraulic drives) combined with a remote operation capability, this is truly unique.

In what capacity are you using bearings and what type of bearings?

We have bearings in the wheel hubs, bearings in the drive systems, bearings in the electric motors, all in all we think we have 8 different kinds of bearings, from tapered to plain to bronze.

What is the most important thing you want people to know about your project?

Graywrx headquarters here in Oakland CA is tooled up and ready to meet the worlds needs for high stress extreme environment larger format robotics solutions, from wheeled, tracked, marine or aviation we can do it.

How will you use the $5,000 prize?

New bearings for our robots!!
