Tell us briefly about your project. Is it a work of art or does it serve another function?

So this project is a big accomplishment, but its not nearly done still have to do the legs and probably make the arms a little better also. The main reason I built this exoskeleton is to learn about engineering, mechanics, electronics, and welding. This project incorporates many different engineering aspects into it. If i succeed in the building of this project and prefect my design with the right money i will have enough to finish my design. In the future this technology can be sold to state or the government for military. So if a natural disaster where to go through a state or country then people could wear these suits and go in and help lift heavy things that have fallen on top of people off of them.

When did you start working on this project and how long did it take you to complete?

I started working on this project in about the summer of 2014 for my prototyping stage but for this design and this exoskeleton it took me around 3 months to make. My life became consumed of working out in my garage on this every weekend and all the free time i had.

What was your goal in building this project?

My goal was to effortlessly carry double the amount of weight a person can curl or lift. Which i succeeded (the test is not shown in the video sorry). I will have a update video soon on my youtube channel FlyHighDIY with tests of the exosuit.

Does your project help to solve a problem? If so what problem?

The problem that this Exosuit Solves is it can save many and many lives. over 100,000 people die a year from natural disasters. Other uses for this involve military, and medical. Soldiers carry over 100lbs on there back and using these exosuits people can do this effortlessly. The Exoskeleton can also be used in medical and can help rehabilitate people.

What makes your idea unique?

My Exosuit is based off of the edge of tomorrow suit. My idea is unique because of the shoulder joints which are very flexible unlike many other exoskeletons i have almost full rotational movement.

In what capacity are you using bearings and what type of bearings?

I used spherical rod ends which are a type of spherical bearing that are used in cars. I used caster wheel bearings for the shoulder joints which allow a lot of flexibility.

What is the most important thing you want people to know about your project?

I worked supper hard on making this project. I have always like making things and this has to be one of my favorite projects yet. I really like my design and how efficient and simple it really is. I thank you for your support.

How will you use the $5,000 prize?

I hope to use the 5000 dollars to make the legs and touch up the top half of the exoskeleton. With the $5000 I will also have enough money to perfect my design and make it look way nicer and a lot cleaner. I love making other projects so i will split the money half for the exosuit and half for my future projects! Thanks, Baylor Thomas
