Tell us briefly about your project. Is it a work of art or does it serve another function?

Basically its a mechanism which generates electricity from ocean waves very cost effectively. It does so by using over 70% parts exist into the market presently. Each Energy harvesting platform is consists of a 4 Wave Harvesting Units(WEH). Each WEH has 3 one way low speed heavy duty clutches. Each WEH unit is consist of a generator, gearbox, torsion bar (for mechanical energy storage), one way clutch, 2 levers. Both levers are connected to input shaft with help of one way locking bearing. The platform moves around with waves, which results on a pull of both levers. One lever spins input shaft while its being actuated and other shaft spins input shaft while its being released. With help of 3 one way clutches and a torsion bar, close to 100% duty cycle can be achieved for the generator.

April 2014, First prototype completed Oct.2014.

What makes your idea unique?

Over 70% parts are available into the market presently which will help lower cost. Wave energy is most reliable source of energy which is available constituent around the clock regardless of weather condition.

In what capacity are you using bearings and what type of bearings?

One-way locking clutch. Roller type.

What is the most important thing you want people to know about your project?

Cleaner energy can be produced cost effectively.

How will you use the $5,000 prize?

Help make medium scale prototype, which will be deployed into the ocean. The current prototype works in a small wave tank. The medium size prototype will work into the ocean.
