One Way Clutch Bearings

One Way Clutch bearings or Sprag style bearings are constructed from a drawn cup with needle roller clutches and have a small radial section height. They are often called One Way Bearings, Anti-Reverse Bearings and Clutch bearings. The units are compact, lightweight and operate directly on a shaft; they are also suitable for transmitting high torque. Boca Bearings offers Standard and Stainless Steel one way clutch bearings as well as OWC style One Way bearings in standard and stainless steel, EWC Hex one way bearings, and CSK Sprag Type one way bearings available with avaialbe keyway options for higher torque capabilities.

One Way Bearings are designed to transmit torque between the shaft and housing in one direction and allow free motion in the opposite direction. Proper mounting is easily accomplished with a simple press fit in the housing. Clutches and clutch and bearing assemblies are offered both in inch and metric series.

SPECIAL NOTES

• HFL series has two integral radial bearings arranged on both sides of needle roller clutch. They can therefore support radial forces in particularly space-saving bearing arrangements.

• Plastic springs (HFL...KF) are available for some sizes.

• Partially knurled outer ring (HFL...R) is available upon request.

• Only after the clutch and bearing assembly has been pressed into the hole of the housing, the drawn thin-walled outer ring could then obtain its final dimension and geometric accuracy.

• The transmissible torque and the stresses which can be taken by the housing are subject to the material and the wall thickness of the housing, and such data is needed upon enquiry.

• The clutch and bearing assembly can be normally used in temperature range from -30°C to 120°C. For the working environment above 70°C, oil lubrication is recommended.

ONE WAY BEARING DESIGN FEATURES

• Torque can be transmitted by either the housing or the shaft.

• Torque is positively transmitted by rollers that wedge against interior ramps.

• Transition from free motion to lock occurs with minimal backlash or lost motion.

• Available as clutch-only or as a clutch and bearing assembly.

• Clutch-only units should be used with external radial support to hold the shaft and housing.

INSPECTION OF ONE WAY BEARINGS

Although the outer cup of the clutch is accurately drawn from strip steel, it can go slightly out of round during heat treat. When the assembly is pressed into a ring gage or properly prepared housing of correct size and wall thickness, it becomes round and properly sized. Direct measurement of the outside diameter of a drawn cup assembly is an incorrect procedure. The proper inspection procedure is as follows:

1. Press the assembly into a ring gage of the proper size as given in the tabular data.

2. Gage the bore with the specified plug gages of the proper size, as given in the tables of dimensions.

- The locking plug is rotated to insure lockup when the clutch is operated at low limit shaft and is mounted in a high limit housing strong enough to properly size

    The FC, FCB, HF, and HFL, RC, RCB Standard One Way Clutch Bearing Series consists of a drawn cup roller clutch with single or multi-rollers. A drawn cup needle roller clutch has a small radial section height and is also commonly known as a One Way Bearing or Anti-Reverse Bearing. One Way Bearings are designed to transmit torque between the shaft and housing in one direction and allow free motion in the opposite direction.

    The FC, HF, and RC style one way bearings consists of a drawn cup roller clutch and bearing assembly with single rollers. The FCB, HFL, and RCB style one way bearings typically a configured with multi-rollers and can thus handle higher loads. 

    An ending designation or suffix in the part number of KF indicates plastic springs and no suffix indicates stainless steel springs. Suffix of R indicates a partially knurled outer ring.An ending designation or suffix in the part number of FS indicates stainless steel springs and no suffix typically indicates plastic springs.

    The S-FC, S-FCB, S-HF, and S-HFL, S-RC, S-RCB Stainless Steel One Way Clutch Bearing Series consists of a drawn cup roller clutch with single or multi-rollers. A drawn cup needle roller clutch has a small radial section height and is also commonly known as a One Way Bearing or Anti-Reverse Bearing. One Way Bearings are designed to transmit torque between the shaft and housing in one direction and allow free motion in the opposite direction. Stainless Steel is more resistant to corrosion than standard bearing steel and so i likely to last longer in conditions where moisture is present. 

    The S-FC, S-HF, and S-RC style one way bearings consists of a drawn cup roller clutch and bearing assembly with single rollers. The S-FCB, S-HFL, and S-RCB style one way bearings typically a configured with multi-rollers and can thus handle higher loads.

  • OWC One Way Clutch Bearings (OWC)

    The OWC and S-OWC Standard and Stainless Steel One Way Bearing Series are a newly designed compact, light and high performance unidirectional clutch bearing with an affordable price. These clutches consist of sintered alloy outer ring, stainless steel roller, leaf spring and welded shield plate. The OWC Series has a maximum operating temperature of 194°F, a compact size with a maximum width of 5.4mm and a very small freewheeling torque. Assembled units pulley, gear or other mechanical elements are available on request. The OWC, and S-OWC One Way Bearing Series has a small radial section height and is also commonly known as a One Way Bearing or Anti-Reverse Bearing. One Way Bearings are designed to transmit torque between the shaft and housing in one direction and allow free motion in the opposite direction.

    The S-OWC designates Stainless Steel which is more resistant to corrosion than standard bearing steel.

    The GXRZ in the part number denotes a right hand turn, while the GXLS denotes a left hand turn.

  • EWC One Way Clutch Bearings (EWC)

    The EWC and S-EWC Standard and Stainless Steel One Way Bearing Series consists of a drawn cup roller clutch, cage and springs. The drawn Cup is made of carburized steel and has a unique hexed external outer diameter. Housings can be designed in accordance with the shapes of gears, timing pulleys and cams.   • CSK Sprag Type One Way Clutch Ball Bearing (CSK)

    The CSK One Way Bearing Series is a sprag type freewheel integrated into the 6200 radial bearing series. The internal part of the bearing is protected by a seal but additional seals are recommended especially when the working temperature exceeds 50°C. The CSK series comes in open and sealed version with rubber seals ("-2RS" at the end of a part number means 2 rubber seals). All CSK One Way Bearings are equipped with chrome formed sprags that increases the over-run life several times. Torque transmission is ensured by a press fit assembly into a rigid outer housing and onto a shaft with an N6 tolerance. Initial bearing radial clearance is set at C5 and is reduced if using the press fit as specified.


    The CSK One Way Bearing Series has a small radial section height and is also commonly known as a One Way Bearing or Anti-Reverse Bearing. One Way Bearings are designed to transmit torque between the shaft and housing in one direction and allow free motion in the opposite direction.

    In addition to the basic CSK model, the "-P" denotes a single keyway on the inner race, and "-PP" at the end of a part number denotes keyways on both the inner and outer race. For this reason it can be keyed to a shaft.
